The man accused of killing a Binghamton University student last spring has been sentenced to prison.

Michael Roque, who accepted a plea deal for second-degree murder in September, was sent to prison for 20 years to life Tuesday.

Roque, from Long Island, pleaded guilty for the April stabbing death of Joao Souza on the BU campus. He had initially rejected a plea deal, but quickly changed his mind.
In a victim impact statement, a representative of Souza's family said, "It was an inhuman act, one that just cannot be excused or forgotten."
