BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Eight people have been arraigned in federal court as part of the ongoing meth investigation dubbed Operation Hail Storm.

They face meth distribution and money laundering charges.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration tells us this was part of a county-wide investigation known as Operation Hail Storm, targeting several houses in the area. It's alleged that the individuals had been distributing and selling meth between Arizona and Binghamton.

Several thousand dollars were also said to have been exchanged over a few years.

The U.S. Marshals, the DEA, the Broome County Sheriff's office, state police and several other agencies raided homes in Endicott, Binghamton and throughout Broome County. The DEA seized approximately 4 grams of crystal meth and 1 gram of heroin from the Binghamton location. Searches throughout the county also recovered guns, scales, several cell phones and vehicles.

Only three of the eight defendants had attorneys, and they pleaded not guilty. Some defendants have several felony arrests on their record, and face life in prison if convicted. The others range from 10 to 25 years and upwards of a million dollars in fines.

On Monday, all eight are due back in federal court for a bail hearing.
