Elizabeth Anne Keys was flying back to Washington, D.C. when the crash happened.

It was her birthday. She’d just turned 33 and was working in D.C. as an attorney.

Madeira, a Cincinnati suburb, was her hometown. She was a 2010 graduate of Madeira High School. That’s where she was named co-valedictorian and involved in several extra-curricular activities.

The district superintendent says he knew her as a sweet student.

“I think staff would remember her for her kindness. I mean, she was kind and accepting of pretty much everyone. I mean, sometimes in high school you hang with this group or that group. And Liz was the one that could work across groups and, you know, just was a super neat kid,” said Madeira City Schools Superintendent Kenji Matsudo.

The superintendent said they will hold a moment of silence right before Friday night’s basketball game in her honor.
