The vibrant yellows, reds and oranges you see in autumn are the natural colors of these leaves, but chlorophyll masks these vibrant colors during the spring and summer months with green pigment.
There is a fun experiment you can do at home to expose these vibrant colors on a green leaf. All you have to do is take rubbing alcohol and rub it on a green leaf.
The alcohol will remove the green pigment from the chlorophyll. Over time, the beautiful colors that you would usually see in autumn will appear. So cool!
