Chris Thompson hails to the Carolinas from northern Illinois and Minnesota, where he grew up with a fascination in watching and learning about the various extreme weather patterns throughout his area. Chris followed his weather broadcasting dreams and later earned a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Northern Illinois University. Come 2014, Chris joined the Spectrum News weather team as a full-time meteorologist after spending three years as a part-time weather broadcaster throughout the Triad.
Residing in the Triangle region, Chris has led his helping hand in more ways than one. Chris spent many years on the board of directors for the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen in Raleigh and was one of the founding organizers of the Durham Habitat for Humanity’s Bull Moon Bicycle and Halloween Bicycle rides. More so, Chris was a volunteer EMT for his local rescue squad up until his second daughter was born.
In Chris’s free time, you can find him relaxing with his wife and two daughters. Aside from his family and tracking the weather, Chris’s next passion is woodworking. With an entire room in his house dedicated to his woodworking art and state-fair ribbons earned, make sure you keep an eye out for him to say hi next time you’re at the fair!
