NORTH CAROLINA -- Valor Games Southeast, hosted by Bridge II Sports, is celebrating its fifth year at the most iconic sports venues in North Carolina.

The games feature 11 sporting events with more than 120 disabled veterans and disabled members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Organizers say athletics and competition play a fundamental role in the recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration of our nation's service members.

The events of the 2017 Valor Games Southeast challenge participants and the community to redefine disability and see the power and potential of sports.

Day one kicked off at UNC Chapel Hill’s Dean Smith Center with competitions in boccia, air rifle and sitting volleyball.

On Wednesday, May 24, the games will take place at Duke University in Durham with competitions in powerlifting, rowing, archery, table tennis and wheelchair basketball.

Events are free and open to the public.
