Durham, N.C.—Unbelievable sets, indescribable costumes.  That’s the feeling one gets after taking just one step behind the red curtain of Disney’s Aladdin.  The North American tour is an undertaking, that requires around 30 trucks and around a hundred cast and crew members to pull off.  And boy oh boy do they do it well.

The cartoon classic is being brought to life right now at the Durham Performing Arts Center.  Featuring beloved characters like Jasmine and the Genie, the Disney classic Aladdin, is now a Broadway musical, filled with intricate dance scenes, costumes, sets, and stunts.

Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair got a behind the scenes look at exactly what it takes to pull off a massive show like this, and takes us along for the magic carpet ride.  From jaw dropping pyrotechnics, to 84 illusions and special effects, there are 38 tons of flying scenery, automated effects and hundreds of lights, and that’s just the set.

The costumes worn in Aladdin are custom made by hand just for this show.  More than 350 people in 28 different shops worked tirelessly to sew, stitch and glue the show’s nearly 350 costumes.

Aladdin continues it’s run at the DPAC through October 26.  For ticket and show information, visit their website.
