BUFFALO, N.Y. — In a series that looked like it would come down to yet another single-goal game, the Buffalo Bandits pulled some more magic out of their hat in the second half and put the pedal to the metal to a three-peat.
"One is great. Two is fine, but there's nothing like winning three in a row," the broadcast explained for those who weren't of the 19,070 filling the seats of 'Banditland.'
It's hard to pull off three NLL cups in a row — just ask the last goalie to do it, Matt Vinc.
"Exactly how the fans feel. It's [an] unbelievable experience. Almost surreal the way the game started, how it ends," said Vinc.
On the way, there have been viral moments, many courtesy of an electric Chase Fraser.
"Coaching staff gives us the reins to do what we want. I'm just having fun being myself out here," he said. "That's through the legs, one handed, behind the backs, Back flip, who knows what's going to happen, right? Just having fun playing lacrosse."
Joining in on the fun for the first time this year in orange and black is trade deadline acquisition Kiel Matisz.
"It's something special for me. My hometown is about 30 minutes away," Matisz noted. "I'm super proud to play on this team for the Banditland fans."
From the stands to the field, there are plenty of homegrown faces like Zack Belter.
"There's such a history, there's a culture going back to 1992 and there's a tradition that we feel we have to uphold," Belter said. "We're just so privileged to have that 'Buffalo' across our chest."
Making the city and region this team represents proud were standout performances from NLL Playoffs MVP Ian McKay and assistant captain Dhane Smith.
"I told the offense in this group that we were going to put up 15 tonight, and we were able to do that," Smith chuckled in the postgame press conference. "Obviously started with the defense. You know, Sterling has had blocking shots. Everybody just committing to the game plan staying in the penalty box. And honestly there's no better feeling."
Now it's time to plan the parade. And after that, maybe they'll think about a fourth.
