Three people were killed in Greenville, North Carolina, last week, and there would likely be more victims if the shooter was not stopped, the Pitt County Sheriff's Office said.

The suspect, identified by deputies as 55-year-old David Lever, is accused of killing 64-year-old Enrique Reyes, 80-year-old Anthony Gribble and his wife, 76-year-old Paula Gribble, on Friday. There were five to six crime scenes, according to deputies, two of which were the victims' homes.

Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance provided a timeline of events in the triple killing in a Monday morning press conference, livestreamed by WITN.

Dance said deputies believe Lever killed Reyes after Reyes returned home from Food Lion Friday, which was at about 1:20 p.m. Reyes lived on Forest Acres Drive, a road that Lever also lives on, Dance said. Lever's green van was seen on camera coming and going from the area.

Reyes was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds outside his home, according to deputies. They received a call at about 3:35 p.m. about a man lying in the driveway.

Just after 2:15 p.m., deputies said they received a call from a man on Peace Ridge Court who said his parents, Anthony and Paula Gribble, had been fatally shot. He held the suspect, later identified as Lever, at gunpoint until authorities could arrive and take him into custody, the sheriff said.

In between the shootings, at about 1:45 p.m., deputies believe Lever fired shots while leaving the Speedway gas station on N.C. 43 North. They also believe Lever fire shots into an unoccupied home.

Deputies reported finding at least 50 guns, from rifles to handguns, inside Lever's home. Guns were also found in Lever's van.

According to deputies, there is no known relationship between Lever and the victims. Further information could not be provided because it could jeopardize the case, Dance said Monday.

Dance called the shootings a "senseless act of violence."
