Debby is now a post-tropical system as it quickly moves north over the northeastern United States.

What You Need To Know

  • Tail-end of Debby's rain-bands continue to impact North Carolina Friday

  • Days of heavy rain leading to river flooding concerns through the weekend

  • High rip current risk continues along the Carolina coastline

Flash flooding will be a concern across the New England region Friday as Debby continues to produce heavy rain. Debby will eventually track over eastern Canada Saturday.

River Flooding

Debby produce a lot of rain for the state the past few days and all that rain has to go somewhere. It the past 72 hours Wilmington received nearly 10 inches of rain, Shallotte receive just over 11 inches and Cary 6.85 inches.

Several rivers are at moderate to major flood stage to close out the weekend, prompting a plethora of River Flood Warnings.

Flooded rivers, creeks and streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Some roads may remain closed or impassible into the nighttime hours. Flooding along several North Carolina rivers will extend into next week.

Always remember when you approach a flooded path or roadway, "Turn Around, Do Not Drown". Always take the drier, safer alternate route.

Dangerous surf conditions

Debby continues to create hazardous marine conditions along our coast. There is a high risk for rip currents at most beaches.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water that pull even experienced swimmers away from shore.
