RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been a staple for years, however, the committee who takes on the task of hosting the event annually says the parade could be jeopardy going forward. 

This year's parade is happening on March 11, but next year, it may not happen at all.

“It does cost a lot to put on a parade," said Dianne Enright, parade committee chair. "We have to cover police, closing the streets and insurance for them and liability insurance, so it does cost a lot and our entry fees only cover about half of the money that we need.”

Volunteers and sponsorships will ensure the parade can occur again next year. 

Patrick Kavanuagh with the Raleigh Cú Chulainn Gaelic Athletic Association says their pub league team typically comes out to the parade not only to celebrate, but also to recruit. 

"The St. Patrick’s Day Parade, it’s a big deal to us, but it's also from a standpoint of the club, it's a great way to get the word out that we exist, that we're here, that we're playing traditional Irish sports here in Raleigh, that we've got a very organized club with, as you can see, a lot of people from the community who are out here from all over the Triangle," Kavanuagh said.
