A missing person's body was recovered Wednesday afternoon following the crash of a small glider plane over the Outer Banks earlier that morning.

At 10 a.m., an ultra-light glider with two passengers landed in the ocean near 120 Ocean Boulevard in Southern Shores after the plane malfunctioned, according to a news release from Shelia Kane, Southern Shores town clerk.

One of the plane's passengers was rescued, but a search ensued for the second passenger, whose body was recovered Wednesday afternoon, Kane said. Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Southern Shores Fire and Ocean Rescue assisted in the search and rescue, Kane said.

The identity of the person who died in the incident has not been released.
