Wake County has added nearly 1,900 new testing slots per day, six days a week, to its testing calendar

On Thursday, the state reported close to 3,800 new COVID-19 cases, which is the most in a single day since early October

Testing appointments have increased by more than 50% this week in Wake County

Testing appointments have increased by more than 50% this week as cases rose following the Thanksgiving holiday, meaning county officials have added more appointment availablity for the public.

Drive-thru testing was in full-swing Tuesday in Wake County.

“Just being safe," Linda Adam said, who is one of dozens of people being tested at the site on Kidd Road.

She had to make an appointment, and the self-administered test was free.

“No one's having an excuse about taking a test when you can just get it for free," Adams said.

Adams says she doesn’t have any symptoms or pressing holiday conflicts.

“I don't travel, and we don't have too many gatherings," Adams said.

Wake County, though, is taking the holiday season into consideration when it comes to testing.

Nearly 1,900 new testing slots per day, six days a week, have been added to the testing calendar.

On Thursday, the state reported close to 3,800 new COVID-19 cases, which is the most in a single day since early October.

It's a good reason to take a test, no matter the circumstances.

“It wouldn't matter to me if it was free or not, I still would have taken the test regardless," Adams said.

A county spokesperson says the increase in testing appointments is nothing new.

They monitor the demand for testing year-round, and with the holiday season in full-swing, they decided to significantly increase testing appointments by more than 50%.

Currently, there are close to 5,000 testing slots offered in Wake County each day.
