DURHAM, N.C. – The historic Beechwood Cemetery in Durham will soon have a new public arts amenity.

Last year, the city chose two local artists to create an art-informed bench, intended to give the family and friends of loved ones buried there a space to contemplate and reflect.

Metal artist Jackie MacLeod says its an honor to be awarded this opportunity.

"It means a lot, it's an affirmation right. Lots of us artists work, and the affirmation is clients buy it. And a commission is an even bigger affirmation because somebody trusts you to create something they will love," MacLeod says.

On Monday, the artists will present their three designs in a virtual meeting with the Durham community.

One will be chosen and installed at Beechwood by late spring.
