CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- An online video that surfaced Tuesday night showing UNC students at an off-campus house has prompted a warning about COVID-19 safety.
The video appears to show dozens of women leaving the home without taking any COVID-19 precautions. None appear to be socially distant or have a mask.
Neighbors tell Spectrum News 1 they believe it was a sorority rush event although the university hasn't confirmed that.
"I think students feel they're immortal. I know I felt immortal when I was young and they probably feel that if they get it, it's not going to be a big deal to them. I just don't think they're thinking very carefully about it," Dave Schrodder, 65, says.
He manages several rental homes near the house in question.
Chapel Hill Police also tell Spectrum News 1 an officer responded to the home asking the ladies to disperse. The video comes as thousands of students return to town to begin in-person classes on Monday.
Police also say town and university leaders will follow up with the tenants to make sure they know the COVID-19 precautions and restrictions.
