NORTH CAROLINA – The Sheriffs of Halifax, Alamance, Sampson, Washington, and Beaufort Counties say they will not be enforcing the governor’s mask requirement.

“The wearing of a mask is a personal decision, not one of a governor in Raleigh,” Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement on Facebook.

Governor Cooper made the announcement Wednesday that the state will not be proceeding to Phase 3 until at least July, and put the requirement in effect.

The mask requirement goes into effect on Friday at 5 p.m.
