NORTH CAROLINA — We now know the identity of the pilot involved in that crash in Gray's Creek on Monday.
A spokesperson for Cumberland County says the crash happened just before 2 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The fire chief's grandson, Jacob Parsons, and three others were participating in an aviation careers days event at Cape Fear Aviation.
It was part of the Cumberland County workforce development program for students to see the different jobs they can have.
The three students were flying in a single engine aircraft along with the fire chief's grandson, who was the pilot.
Fire Chief Joe Marsh says his grandson had surgery Monday night.
The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
