DURHAM, N.C. — Experts say it takes years until a person becomes a good bridge player. But in Durham, one woman is proving it might be worth your time and patience.

100-year-old Pearl Schecter has been playing bridge for over 50 years. Most recently, inside Durham's Bridge Academy where she's become a bit of a local celebrity.

On Friday, the First Lady of North Carolina, Kristen Cooper made a visit to the academy to meet Schecter.

Pearl says she believes bridge has helped keep her in good health.

“I definitely do, all my life I’ve been considered a pretty smart person but bridge I think has helped," said Schecter.

Schecter says she plays bridge three times a week at The Bridge Academy.
