NORTH CAROLINA -- Some Red Delicious Apples that were sold individually in North Carolina have been recalled due to possible Listeria contamination.
- Some Red Delicious Apples that were sold individually in NC are being recalled.
- They were shipped to Creedmoor.
- Specific retailers are not known.
The apples were shipped to the NC Department of Agriculture Food Distribution Division- Butner in Creedmoor.
It is unknown what retailers sold the apples, but their PLU numbers are 4168 and 4167.
The recalled apples were shipped between October 16 and October 21 from one North Bay facility to wholesalers, retailers and brokers in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms from Listeria exposure such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
Apples purchased at retail prior to October 16 are not affected by this recall.
No illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall.
