FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- On October 23, Fayetteville Public Works Commission celebrated by being the first in the state to have a community solar farm.

  • Homeowners don't have to worry about installing solar panels on their roof, but instead take the energy from the farm
  • Energy from the battery goes to a nearby power plant which then will go to your home
  • A spokesperson for Fayetteville PWC said the solar panels will be available to lease starting November 1, 2019

Homeowners don't have to worry about installing solar panels on their roof, but instead take the energy from the farm. Each panel uses energy from the sun and stores it into a battery. Energy from the battery goes to a nearby power plant which then will go to your home.

PWC customers can lease up to five panels. The company says they'll credit the accounts of participating homeowners about a dollar per panel.

"Rather than have to spend a lot of money to bolt one to my roof which my wife wouldn't like very much, this gives me the opportunity to invest in solar, but have it out here with lost of other folks," Fayetteville resident, Wick Smith said.

A spokesperson for Fayetteville PWC said the solar panels will be available to lease starting November 1, 2019.
