PITTSBORO, N.C. -- Chatham County Commissioners have voted to remove a Confederate statue from outside the old courthouse in Pittsboro Monday.
The 4-1 vote came in just after 9 p.m.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy agreed to talk about the statue's future with commissioners, but later backed out.
The monument has to be moved by the end of October.
After than it will be declared public trespass on November 1.
