WENDELL, N.C. -- A community pool center in Wendell is taking heat after posting its pool rules to social media.

  • The post included 14 rules ranging from no food in the pool area to being respectful of others.
  • One of the rules says  "no baggy pants, no dreadlocks, weaves, extensions or revealing clothes will be permitted or you will be asked to leave."
  • ORC also posted on Facebook that they were instructed during their certified pool operator class to have this rule to not clog the filter system but that post has also since been deleted.

The post was made on Facebook but has since been deleted. It included 14 rules ranging from no food in the pool area to being respectful of others.

What's causing a stir, however, is rule number seven.

It says "no baggy pants, no dreadlocks, weaves, extensions or revealing clothes will be permitted or you will be asked to leave."

The business, Outdoor Recreation Center, itself is billed as a public swimming pool on Facebook but there is a seasonal membership fee to swim there.

One person who spoke with the owner about the rules says they were told they have been in place for the past six years since they opened.

ORC also posted on Facebook that they were instructed during their certified pool operator class to have this rule to not clog the filter system but that post has also since been deleted.

The business has not yet commented, and advised Spectrum News to stay off their property.
