DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- Officials from the Durham County Department of Health have announced that there is not a case of measles in Durham.

  • Officials in Durham warned of two potential measles exposures that happened last week.
  • The first happened at Bean Traders on NC-54.
  • The second happened at the Goddard School.

After receiving the final test results Tuesday, officials have ruled out measles as the reason for the patient's illness.

Authorities say last Monday a possible exposure occurred at the Bean Traders on NC-54 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

A second exposure was thought to have taken place at the Goddard School on Tuesday, June 11 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

The school sent out a letter to parents to inform them on Saturday.

Measles is highly contagious, spread through coughing, sneezing, and contact with secretions from the nose mouth and throat from an infected person. The virus can live on surfaces for several hours after coming in contact with an infected person.
