KNIGHTDALE, N.C. -- The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down near Knightdale Monday morning.
The EF2 tornado touched down at 10:20 a.m., 4 miles northeast of Knightdale, and passed through eastern Wake County from near Wendell to Zebulon.
The report also says that the fallen trees in the area confirm the tornado. A survey team is headed to look at the damage and determine wind strength, path length and width.
Residents around Wake County say trees are down in their neighborhoods and golf ball-sized hail damaged their homes and cars.
People along the North Church Street neighborhood in Zebulon say trees went through bedrooms, walls and ceilings.
Zebulon officials say no one was hurt during the severe weather event.
Cleanup and assessment will continue in Wendell Tuesday. The National Weather Service is still determining the tornado's category that hit part of the town Monday morning.
