DUNN, N.C. -- A museum curator believes there was a possible case of mistaken identity after a statue was badly damaged at a Dunn museum.

The statue is of Maj. Gen. William C. Lee, known as the "Father of the U.S. Airborne."

Mark Johnson, director of the General William C. Lee Airborne Museum, says he believes vandals mistook the statue and thought it was of Maj. Gen. Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate States Army.

The statue was burned last week.

Even though the two have the same last names, Johnson says they're in no way related.
