HENDERSON, N.C. -- Police are putting hotels along Interstate 85 on alert following a series of car break-ins at a few locations.
- The most recent ones happened at the Sleep Inn on Market Street this past weekend.
- Police are also investigating similar car break-ins at the nearby Red Roof Inn and Baymont Inn and Suites
- Authorities believe the cases are connected as they close in on suspects.
The most recent ones happened at the Sleep Inn on Market Street this past weekend. A police report shows burglars broke into four separate cars, totaling more than $4,000 in stolen items and damage.
“There was glass laying on the ground naturally where he broke the window out,” said hotel guest Jennifer Egan. She's one of the victims. She stayed at the hotel with her husband during a work trip, coming from Tennessee.
“About $3 worth of change. Some nose spray for sinuses. Cell phone holder. And then we later found out a laptop was taken,” said Egan as she describes what the thieves took.
Police are also investigating similar car break-ins at the nearby Red Roof Inn. A few months ago, the Baymont Inn and Suites reported a smash and grab, according to the manager.
Authorities believe the cases are connected as they close in on suspects. They hope to make arrests in the coming days. They remind people that locking doors isn't always enough. They urge drivers to make sure they place valuables out of sight.
