NASH COUNTY, N.C. – A man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in in Bailey.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man died at the scene on Maudis Road, up the road from Wood Airport.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is underway.

The victim's mother identified the dead man as 28-year-old Jonathan Remirez. 

"I crawled to him praying for him," she said. "I want justice for my son. You call the police to protect us, not to kill us."

In a statement from the department, Chief Deputy Brandon Medina said: “A citizen of our community has lost his life, a family is mourning, and our law enforcement agency is deeply saddened as a result of what has happened. Please join us as our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragic incident.”
