NORTH CAROLINA -- Late Show host Stephen Colbert threw some fiery insults about North Carolina BBQ, during a late night segment on the rescue of 3-year-old Casey Hathaway.

“Little boy found in North Carolina, that is such happy news. But in a tragic twist, he will have to spend his life eating North Carolina barbecue,” said Colbert in his "Meanwhile" segment. "I welcome your vinegar-stained letters, you poor flavor-deprived b--tards."

Colbert, a South Carolina native, no doubt prefers that state's mustard based sauce to NC's vinegar based brand.

The late show host also offered a few humorous thoughts on Hathaway's rescue story, particularly the bit about him hanging out with a bear.

“When asked what he did all that time, the 3-year-old said he 'hung out with a bear for two days.' Incredible,” Colbert said. “A snack-sized human arrives in this bear’s woods and it doesn’t even eat him.”
