FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Cumberland County Deputies are hopeful in getting answers to a 25 year old unsolved murder case.

  • On October 2, 1993, investigators said someone shot and killed 38-year-old Joseph McAlister on Tine Road in Fayetteville.
  • The man's family joined the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in a search to find clues and solve the case Thursday.
  • Despite no breaks in the case, the family is eager someone will come forward.

On October 2, 1993, investigators said someone shot and killed 38-year-old Joseph McAlister on Tine Road in Fayetteville. On January 17, 2019, the man's family joined the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in a search to find clues and solve the case.

Deputies said after someone shot McAlister, his car ran off the road and crashed into a tree -- killing him. Despite no breaks in the case, the family is eager someone will come forward.

"I think our hope is that someone's conscience will be awakened," sister Yvette Stokes said. "There are probably many people that know the truth. People that are in this area that their conscience will be awakened that a life was taken needlessly."
