FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The All-American City, as of mid-January, is less than three months away before it has a completed baseball stadium.

• The facility came with a price tag originally set for $33 million but has now humped to more than $40 million
• City officials said the price hike is due to an increase in building materials, plus the recent hurricanes put the project behind schedule
• Despite a bigger price tag, the city said the Houston Astros will pay for a portion of the debt and the city will handle the rest

The facility came with a price tag originally set for $33 million but has now humped to more than $40 million. City officials said the price hike is due to an increase in building materials, plus the recent hurricanes put the project behind schedule. To avoid any delay, the construction company needed more for additional workers.

Despite a bigger price tag, the city said the Houston Astros will pay for a portion of the debt and the city will handle the rest.

"This is an investment," Fayetteville resident, Fred Whitted said. "Although it looks like it's costing more, in the long range, especially if they have a winning team, they're going to make it back.­"

City officials said the revenue from ticket sales, renting out the stadium, or any rising property values in the area will go toward the debt that's owed.
