LAURINBURG, N.C. -- Two prisoners are hospitalized after several altercations at Scotland Correctional Institution Saturday.

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety says multiple inmates were involved in separate altercations.

Officials say the first incident happened at around 2:15 p.m. and nine inmates assaulted another person in the same unit. That person was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The second incident happened at 3 p.m. in a different unit. Officials say one inmate attacked another inmate and the severity of his injuries is unknown, but he was also transported for treatment.

Both incidents are under investigation.
