HOKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Faculty and staff in Hoke County will soon be using a mobile app to help with response times to active shooters.

  • The Rave Panic Button app alerts 911 and first responders about an active shooter
  • Only faculty and staff will have access to the app
  • App officials said schools in all 50 states are using their app during dangerous situations

In case of an active shooter, faculty and staff can immediately open the Rave Panic Button app. From there, everyone in the school district will be alerted including 911 and first responders.

Only faculty and staff in all 14 schools county-wide will have access to the app.

It's an idea from Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin, who was looking for a faster way to handle a possible active shooter.

"Most time the people who have committed crimes, they do research," Peterkin said. "They look at technology. They case out your schools. They case out your neighborhoods. They are looking at new and innovative ways to commit crimes. I'm excited about the fact that we are doing the same."

App officials said schools in all 50 states are using their app during dangerous situations.

Hoke and Henderson counties are the only two counties in the state using it.
