SANFORD, N.C. -- A Moore County woman is charged with aggravated assault and child abuse with serious injury.
- Police say 46-year-old Celeste Humes from Cameron, made a 2-year-old boy stand in front of the class while naked and spanked him with a wooden stick
- It happened in May at Church of God of Prophecy
- Humes' next court date is Aug. 15
Sanford police said 46-year-old Celeste Humes from Cameron, made a 2-year-old boy stand in front of the class while naked. The police record goes on to say as the boy was standing there, Humes proceeded to hit the boy on the butt with a wooden stick.
Officers say the incident happened in May at Church of God of Prophecy, but the woman was arrested July 24.
A daycare teacher in the area said she was shocked to hear the news and said there are other ways to discipline children.
"That's something I would never do," Sanford parent, Nikki Howard said. "I feel like if she felt like the child was overwhelming, then that's when you call for help. You say I need to take a 5 minute break or something."
Spectrum News stopped by Humes' home for questioning, however the door was closed on one of our reporters.
Humes' next court date is scheduled for Aug. 15.
