WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Some of the 14 Kroger stores originally slated to close in August are now shutting their doors as early as next week.

  • Kroger stores in Raleigh and Durham have one more week before closing.
  • A spokesperson says inventory is too low to give good grocery selection.
  • Some employees have no plans on future employment.

Kroger stores, including the one on Falls of Neuse Road, announced guests have just one more week to visit locations in Raleigh and Durham.

A spokesperson told Spectrum News inventory is just too low to give customers a good selection of groceries.

It’s not good news for employees who say they’ve worked years at the chain, and they feel it’s leaving them with no plans on future employment. One woman says working for Kroger was the best job she’s ever had.

"I pray we get passed here. We are friends, we are family. That we will meet somewhere and God will help us," said employee Tina Nwadiaro.

Nwadiaro says her managers offered some employees to go work at the Kroger on Six Forks Road next week. Others will report to the Kroger on Creedmoor Road.

STORES CLOSING:

  • Roxboro St. – Durham - July 30
  • Falls of Neuse Rd. – Raleigh - Aug. 1
  • Southwest Durham Dr. – Durham – Aug. 8
