MOORE COUNTY, N.C. -- Good news for peach lovers! Now is the perfect time to grab your favorites while they're in season.
- The good crop season is attributed to the mostly dry conditions in the state
- Some farmers say it's the best they've seen in years
- Residents can find peach orchards in about two-thirds of the state
Growers are reporting a good crop season thanks to the mostly dry conditions the state has had. The climate with occasional rain is helping the 2018 season thrive so much that one farmer said it's the best he's seen in four years.
"I think the peaches will be cheaper than they were last year, for sure because they're such a short crop," Co-owner of Ken Chappell Peaches & Apples Ken Chappell said. "They're probably 20 percent cheaper for the consumer. I think they'll find them to be reasonable."
Residents can find peach orchards in about two-thirds of the state's counties. Back in 2014, the state made enough peaches that brought in more than $6 million for the state's economy.
Peach season runs until Labor Day.
