MOORE COUNTY, N.C. -- The Moore County drop zone used by Fort Bragg officially has a name.
- Moore County "drop zone" officially named the "Ray Lambert Drop Zone"
- Lamber is a WWII veteran and D-Day survivor.
- Lambert was in attendance.
The army hosted a ceremony Thursday to name the zone the "Ray Lambert Drop Zone."
Lambert is a World War II Veteran and a D-Day survivor.
"I'm really happy and very honored to be involved in this," Lambert said. "These guys coming down really brought me back to D-Day."
Before the dedication, hundreds of people came out to see paratroopers jump from a helicopter at 2,000 feet in the air. Their purpose was to prepare soldiers who may need to land in or near water while in combat.
"If anyone tells you that they're not scared when they jump, they're lying," said Captain Daniel Bauscher with the Fort Bragg Airborne Division. "This is my 40th jump and I still get a little nervous. It was my first water jump too so you always have that little bit of uncertainty. It was very peaceful."
Before the ceremony, a few of the paratroopers had a chance to jump from the UH-60 Blackhawk at 12,000 feet.
