RALEIGH -- The Raleigh skyline continues to change, as a new building is coming to downtown.

First National Bank will be the anchor tenant for a new 22-story mixed-use building on Fayetteville Street.

"It's a $118 million project, so it's the single largest investment for a project in Raleigh, North Carolina," says Dominion Realty Partners CEO and Chairman Andy Andrews. Andrews said building construction starts Friday and should conclude in early 2020.

Adjacent to the Convention Center and Marriott City Center, it will include 156,000 square feet of office space, 239 luxury high-rise apartments, and a skydeck.

"This building will also be green-certified," says Andrews. "And we're mighty excited to be doing this in our hometown."

"It does speak to the success of, not only downtown Raleigh, but to Raleigh in general," says Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane.

The new FNB tower is being built where the annual ice skating rink is normally held in the winter. When asked about would become of the rink, officials didn't have a definitive answer. However, McFarlane said it could be moved to Dix Park.
