RALEIGH --- A corrections officer was assaulted at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women on Thursday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The officer was transported to the hospital where they were treated for superficial injuries and then released.

Details surrounding the assault are not being released at this time. 

The assault remains under investigation.
