DURHAM, N.C. - The little girl who was shot Mother's Day morning while asleep in her bed is now home.

Deisy Medina, 10, is resting after being hit in the stomach by a stray bullet from an upstairs apartment. Her mother was sleeping right next to her in the same bed during the shooting.

She says she doesn't remember what happened but is scared to go back into her bedroom.

However Medina did mention some of the things she looks forward to when she feels better.

"I want to go to school. And play with my friends and play with my brother,” said Medina.

Police are still looking for the gunman.

When police arrived at the complex in the 4200 block of Garrett Road, the apartment where the bullet came from was empty.

Officers recovered a holster and a shell casing from the upstairs apartment but as of now, no one has returned to that apartment.

Durham Police Chief C.J. Davis released a statement on the shooting: "I am deeply disturbed and incensed at this act of violence, which resulted in the serious injury to an innocent sleeping child. The Durham Police Department is committed to identifying the individuals responsible for discharging the weapon used in this incident, and pursuing appropriate charges against all involved.”

The family says they plan to move from the apartment complex.
