DURHAM -- Veteran journalist and former WTVD evening news anchor Larry Stogner has died.
Station officials say Stogner passed away in his home Sunday night.
He was known and respected on-air for generations in central North Carolina.
A North Carolinian to the core, he was raised in Yanceyville and attended UNC-Chapel Hill.
He was also a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Air Force and revered as one of the longest serving anchors in the nation.
Stogner retired from the anchor desk in 2015. He was diagnosed with ALS and wanted to spend time with his family.
Stogner was 69 years old and is survived by his wife, Bobbi, their six children and grandchildren.
A public memorial is scheduled for Oct. 12 in Durham.
