RALIEGH -- In an effort to join a nationwide standard, Raleigh city crews are repainting fire hydrants from red to yellow in the coming days.
Publicly-owned hydrants will now be painted yellow which is expected to help the city maintain its 22,000 hydrants.
Meanwhile, privately owned hydrants like those at shopping centers, will still be painted red.
Local officials say the color coded system will help with keeping up with the local water supply and maintenance.
