STATEWIDE - A fugitive from North Carolina has been captured in Florida.

Florida authorities say 43-year-old Damon Kennedy led Havelock police on a chase on June 29 through two counties after an officer discovered his vehicle was reported stolen in South Carolina.

Authorities say he initially pulled over then sped off, later stopping to let three people out of the car.

Kennedy also rammed two Carteret County deputies’ patrol cars before running away.

Law enforcement in Daytona Beach, Florida received a tip that Kennedy was hiding out in the woods posing as a homeless man.

He is being held in Florida awaiting extradition.
