NORTH CAROLINA -- Goldsboro Mayor Chuck Allen ushered in a new era for Wayne County with the opening of the new U.S. 70 Bypass on Friday.
Officials say the roadway connects Durham and Wake counties more effectively with eastern North Carolina.
According to North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, it allows for economic opportunities all along the route in addition to giving the Triangle easier access to the ports along our coast.
The new bypass goes around Goldsboro, from just west of N.C. 581 in Wayne County to just east of Promise Land Road in Lenoir County.
Residents there say they're excited for the economic boost.
Mayor Allen says the new road improves some everyday inconveniences for his community.
Meanwhile, the governor says he's hopeful that the road to economic success will continue to be paved.
