LOUISBURG -- What do skydivers do when they lose one of their own? Remember, and then jump again in their honor.

Nearly 150 skydivers took to the skies, taking one more step toward recovery after the loss of a family member and friend.

James Stremmel of Raleigh died on Jan. 16 from injuries sustained in a skydiving incident in Louisburg.

On Saturday, members of Stremmel's family, along with skydivers from around the country, came to jump, to heal, after losing their son, brother and friend.

Don Carrington freezes jumps, frame by frame, capturing meetings with the sky, one jumper at a time. He said Stremmel's smile made for a picture worth a thousand words.

Stremmel tandem jumped, often taking others for their first leap of faith.

Skydivers say when coming down, one can see the curvature of the earth. They add it's a memory that's hard to forget, much like that of their friend James.
