DURHAM -- A Cary man has been officially charged in a violent crime spree.
Durham police say Eric Nguyen, 27, beat and carjacked a 26-year old woman on Morgan Street in the afternoon on December 9th. He then took off in the victim's red Honda Civic.
As the manhunt ensued, police received several reports that Nguyen was crashing into cars and even struck a pedestrian and a bicyclist. It took nearly two weeks for authorities to find and arrest him.
"Immediately it looks like you're going to get hit head on, so you just brace yourself," says Roderick Martin, who was driving his red Cadillac when police say Nguyen struck him.
Nguyen made his first court appearance in Durham County on Tuesday. He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of common-law robbery, two counts of malicious assault in a secret manner, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, seven counts of hit-and-run, two counts of damage to property and five counts of reckless driving. He apologized to the judge in court.
The judge set bond at $2 million. He's scheduled to go back to court in late January.
