RALEIGH — Even for the film’s star, it’s hard for Barry Bostwick to believe "Rocky Horror Picture Show" first graced the big screen 43 years ago. At the time, the cast and crew of the low budget film had no idea just how massive their artwork would be.
But now, four decades later, some call it the original cult classic. Starring Bostwick, Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry and Meatloaf, the film is now attracting the third generation of audience members in some families, to jump to the “time warp” and sing along the way.
Bostwick sat down with Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair for a look at his iconic roles on the big and small screen, even including his time on stage back in the 70s where he starred as the original Danny Zuko in the musical production of "Grease." He would then go on tackle a number of roles like the quirky mayor, Randall Winston.
Bostwick has stood the test of time, holding down meaningful roles in critically acclaimed films, TV shows and theatre productions. But it’s his role as Brad in "Rocky Horror" that attracts thousands of fans to comic con style conventions across the country, like Raleigh Supercon this weekend.
For three days, Bostwick is meeting his fans face to face, signing underwear like the pair he wore in the film and taking pictures with his fans who dress the part. He says it never gets old seeing the smiling faces and to get the thank you’s in return.
