Raleigh-- No matter where you go in the US, there's always a debate which Girl Scout Cookie is the best.  From Thin Mints® to Caramel deLights® and Peanut Butter Patties®, there's a cookie to match most tastes and palates.  This year, the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program celebrates more than 100 years of the largest girl-led business, by selling their bright colored boxes throughout central and eastern North Carolina from Saturday, January 13th through Sunday, March 4th.

The long cherished tradition is helping build leadership skills, and provide powerful experiences for the cadettes involved.  From raising money for recent hurricane victims, to supporting council-sponsored events where girls can develop new skills in STEM, organizers say "the Girl Scout Cookie Program supports girls on their path to leadership while broadening their experiences and opportunities."

"In addition to making a local impact, Girl Scout Cookie sales also functions as a true financial literacy program, teaching girls essential skills to succeed personally and professionally, including goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Through the program, girls become leaders in business and sales, learn how to manage finances, and gain self-sufficiency and confidence in handling money. Everything girls do in Girl Scouts is designed to help them grow into women steeped in the courage, confidence, and character necessary to make the world a better place – and the Girl Scout Cookie Program is no different," the organization said in a news release.

This year, the council is also helping our troops.  For the 12th year, the Scouts are helping bring the sweet taste of home to those deployed overseas.  In central and eastern North Carolina, there have been more than 900,000 boxes of cookies donated to the military.  And this year, they hope to surpass the 1 million box mark.
