RALEIGH, N.C.-- "We need your help, I need your help. We need money for research. It may not save my life, it may save my children's lives, it may save someone you love,” said Jim Valvano during the 1993 ESPY awards.
And now, 23 years later, Valvano’s own daughter Jamie is continuing her father’s fight against cancer. The daughter of the late NC State Men’s Basketball coach, was diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years after her father’s emotional speech. But today, she’s cancer free, and spreading the word of awareness and the need for research and funding.
So to prove her dedication, Jamie Valvano has vowed to run for Team V in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Raleigh this year. She has already surpassed the fundraising minimum, and continues to raise money for Team V.
The 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and ½ Marathon takes place on April 9th and 10th in downtown Raleigh. For more information visit their website.
