A long-awaited and now controversial book by Pulitzer-prize winning author Harper Lee was officially released Tuesday. The book takes place 20 years after the event's of 1960's "To Kill a Mockingbird" and features the iconic Atticus Finch but in a different light. Chapel Hill public library reader services coordinator Susan Maguire discusses this highly anticipated novel.

• On Tuesday, July 14, the Chapel Hill Public Library will hold a 2 p.m. matinee screening of the film adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird. 


• At 6:30 p.m., Daniel Wallace, author of Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions and Director of the Creative Writing Department at UNC Chapel Hill will moderate a discussion about Lee’s works and legacy. The panel will feature the following guests:

·         Christopher Brook, Legal Director of the ACLU of North Carolina

·         Joe Flora, Professor Emeritus, UNC Department of English and Comparative Literature

·         Patrick Horn, Associate Director of the Center for the Study of the American South

·         Anna Jean Mayhew, author of The Dry Grass of August
