RALEIGH -- Thousands crowded Raleigh's Pullen Park Saturday for Letterland Adventure Day.

The event featured a variety of fun activities for kids all with a focus on literacy.

Organizers said the goal of the event was to make learning fun for kids.

"We're expecting close to 14,000 people here today and… everybody is happy," said Sherri Miller, the director of literacy for the Wake County School System.

"The biggest influence the lesson has on children is they have fun while learning at the same time,” said Tom Wendon, the director of sales and marketing for Letterland.

The Wake County Public School System and other organizations teamed up with Raleigh Parks and Recreation to make the event possible.
